Pedestrian injured days after pedestrian safety summit
Pedestrian injured days after pedestrian safety summit
This morning at 8:10 a.m. a pedestrian was struck on Blair Road near Innes Road. Police closed off the northbound section of Blair Road where the accident occurred. The road will stay closed until more information about the pedestrian’s injuries is released.
According to the CBC, 40 pedestrians were killed in Ottawa traffic fatalities between 2005 and 2010, a quarter of which were in 2010.
Earlier this week Councillor Diane Holmes called a special summit on pedestrian safety. Holmes aims to start a pedestrian advocacy group to pressure the city into improving pedestrian safety, including building more sidewalks and traffic signals.
OpenFile posted the report from Holmes’ summit. You can also read the City of Ottawa’s Pedestrian and Cycling Safety guide and the Ottawa Pedestrian Plan on the City’s site.
