Who designed the John McCrae memorial garden?
This morning we linked to a story and video about the John McCrae Secondary School's new memorial garden. The garden contains a beautiful modern cenotaph inspired by the Vimy Ridge memorial, but the designer has so far gone uncredited.
The school's website outlines some of the finer details, like the bronze plaques containing "In Flanders Field" and "Au champ d'honneur" mounted on the granite monuments and the gravestone honouring the unknown solder. The garden surrounding the monument is designed by Nepean-based Green Thumb Garden Centre.
The school is currently looking for donations to cover $7000 of outstanding costs for the garden. More information for donors can be found on their website.
While we're looking into who exactly designed the cenotaph, let us know what your favourite unsung monuments are in Ottawa in the comments below.
