The provincial election debate that's all about you

The provincial election debate that's all about you

If you live in Ottawa Centre, there's another all-candidates debate you can mark on your calendar. And you can play an important role in how it all goes down.

When's it happening?

On Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., your candidates will answer questions and discuss issues for two hours at Saint Paul University's Guigues Hall.

Which candidates will be there?

All candidates have been invited. Here's the list of candidates in the riding:

  • Kristina Chapman, Independent — CONFIRMED
  • Robert Dekker, PC — CONFIRMED
  • Anil Naidoo, NDP — CONFIRMED
  • Yasir Naqvi, Liberal — CONFIRMED
  • Kevin O'Donnell, Green — CONFIRMED
  • Stuart Ryan, Communist — CONFIRMED
  • Michal Zeithammel, Libertarian — CONFIRMED

Who's involved?

OpenFile is working with the Old Ottawa East Community Association, the Glebe Community Association and the Old Ottawa South Community Association. We couldn't host this debate without the generosity of Saint Paul University, which is providing us its auditorium for the evening.

Our moderator for the evening will be the Ottawa Citizen's David Reevely, a City Hall reporter and the man behind the popular Greater Ottawa blog.

Together, we're working to provide you the chance to ask questions of your provincial candidates—and you don't have to wait until the debate to do so.

How do I get involved?

If you have something to ask that you think is important, leave it as a comment here on this page. If you want to follow up on other readers' questions with your own, please do. We'd love to see readers interacting with each other.

OpenFile's editor and reporters will be monitoring the thread below, and we might even ask some questions of our own to spur discussion. Have no fear, though: We'll only ask your questions on Debate Night.

You can contribute on Twitter, too. Just follow #ocdb8 on Twitter.

(Please note: The questions posed here will only comprise one portion of the all-candidates debate. We'll post more information shortly about how to ask questions during the event.)

How will the debate unfold?

One portion of the debate is devoted to having your questions answered. A second portion answers questions submitted in writing by those in attendance. If you can't get to the debate, that first portion allows you to make your voice heard. That second portion means those who attend can participate, too.

What happens afterwards?

We're going to tape the debate and post videos and transcripts, divided by question, here at OpenFile. We're going to provide candidates the opportunity to elaborate on the answers they gave the night of the debate. We'll give each candidate 100 words per question.
